Behind the times.

Ok, I'm going to admit what a moron I am. Not that you may not have noticed before, but I am.

For years now, I have always heard people say that they sent something via "snail mail", and I had no idea what that meant. And I was too afraid to ask. I thought maybe snail mail was a group email. Or instant message thing. Yeah, I was wrong.

I finally looked it up on Wikipedia and now am enlightened. Next time I should just ask.

Update on TT.

TT had surgery at about 2:00 this afternoon. The surgery went well, lasting about an hour and a half. The Dr. is optimistic that he got a "clean margin" and said that he took as much as he needed without hopefully affecting his speech and/or swallowing. This was good news because pre-surgery he had indicated they may have to take half of the tongue, may have to open up his neck, may have to skin graft, etc. Luckily, none of those things happened.

We got to see him in recovery around 6:00. He looked to be in a lot of pain, but was coherent enough to write some words on a sheet of paper. It was perplexing to me that none of the nurses had apparently thought to give him paper to communicate. He wanted us to be sure to tell the nurses that he doesn't tolerate codeine as it makes him sick. (I'm pretty sure vomitting is the top thing on the list of things he doesn't want to be doing right now). The one nurse kept saying, oh no, he doesn't have any codeine. So the mom told her that he tolerates Vicodin really well. At which point, the same nurse says, 'oh, he doesn't have orders for Vicodin, he's on codeine.' I should point out this is the same hospital where I had my "Is this needled clean" incident 2 months ago.

Now it's a waiting game to see how the path report comes back. Which could take up to a week. Hopefully TT will get to leave the hospital tomorrow if he can drink liquid food. Then it's 4 weeks of rest and possible further treatment if the path demands it.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. And the lasagna and beer bread. I've got the best friends in the world.

Thinking of TT

I know I've been non-existent for a while. I've just been uninspired. Eh.

As anyone who had been keeping up with my mom's blog may know, this upcoming week will be a bit of a lag for the fam. My brother, TT, (whose blog I'd link to, except he only ever had one post) is scheduled for surgery on Monday. 5 years ago, TT had tongue cancer. When he found a growth a month or so ago, the Dr. was optimistic he had nothing to worry about. But then the PET scan came back Friday and it said differently. On Monday TT will have his 3rd surgery in 6 years to remove more cancer from his tongue. This time is a little different as he's also going to have to have some skin grafting which none of us are entirely certain what that entails. And he may face potential further treatment such as radiation depending on the pathology reports. As you can imagine, the next few days will be difficult for TT.

I know TT reads this occassionally, and if you see this bro, I love ya. I know God's thrown you a few more curve balls than the rest of us, but you're tough. Keep your chin up and you'll get through this.

For everyone else, please keep TT and my parents in your prayers and I'm sure my mom or I will update the goings on as they arise.
